Kaavaton contemporary textile art exhibition

Kaavaton – Finnish contemporary textile and fiber art exhibited by 24 textile artists in Raisio museum Harkko.
Raisio museum Harkko’s summer exhibition Kaavaton 16.5.–31.8.2025 celebrates the versatility of textile art and its continuing ability to transform.
The exhibition makes us ponder, what is textile art. Does it owe more to material than technique or vice versa? Textile artists often combine textile with other material, such as metal, glass and paper, which makes the definition of textile art more flexible. Textile art surfs across fine art, crafts and the aesthetics of material – making it traditional crafts and art at the same time. Printed fabrics can be seen as unique works of art or as repetition and vanishing uniqueness like pop art.
The museum Harkko organised late 2024 an open call. 116 artists participated and suggested 361 artworks. The museum director Heli Isolehto curated the exhibition, which contains 29 artworks by 24 textile artists.
