Visual artist Niina Hiltunen has graduated from Turku University of Applied Sciences. Her thesis discusses the expressiveness of Finnish textile artist Kirsti Rantanen’s (1930–2020) three-dimensional textile artworks and places her art and artistry in the study continuum of Finnish textile art and artists.

The main emphasis of the thesis lies on the analysis of Rantanen’s 15 works and their expressiveness, i.e., what the expressiveness is like, what does it consist of and how materials, colors, surfaces and forms of the art textiles affect the expressive power. It is also discussed if there are any common features in Rantanen’s textile art.
